Fabulous Buddhist Temples, ranging from Thai, Indian, Burmese, Khmer, Laotian & (above) Chinese.
One of many beautifully tended parks that are enjoyed by tourists, expats and locals alike. They all have modern exercise facilities, sporting arenas, playgrounds for kids of different age groups, kiosks selling snacks, icecreams, cool drinks etc, fountains, art works, walking tracks, picnic areas and magnificent trees, shrubs and gardens.
Easy going lifestyle
The land of the elephants.
Displays in shopping centers usually change according to the Buddhist calendar or new promotion.
Skytrain and subway are really easy and affordable ways to travel around the city. Airport Link takes you straight from the main international terminal right to the city center for a little over a dollar. Change in the city for lines going to major tourist centers of Sumkhuvit and Silom. Busses, mini-busses, taxis, Tuk-Tuks (3 wheeled open air mini taxis) and ferries can take to the attractions and more urban areas.
Asok Ave' center of Sumkhuvit tourist zone. Large shopping malls and hotels in this area as well as very busy nightlife 7 days a week. Street stalls compete with the larger venues for everything from clothing to food.
Central World shopping mall in the CBD. The elevated walkways connect the major malls to the Skytrain system and allow easy movement throughout the key CBD area.
A Soi is a laneway off a major road. Can be anything from a walkway to a two lane street. The walls of the grander mansions are ornate European style.
I've been eating from these stalls for 18 months now and have never even had the slightest trace of food poisoning from them. I have heard of it occurring however, so pick the cleanest and busiest and you should be ok. Western food outlets are everywhere and are kept to same standards as home. Thong Lo street stalls have the most fabulous food you'll find anywhere, all very cheap too!
Thais are obsessed with colour and beauty. You will not cease to be amazed at the sights sounds and activities around the city.
View of Bangkok city nightline from Baiyoke2 Tower Hotel Public Restaurant. The views are incredible over this vast city from the tallest building in Thailand. There is a mix of smorgasbord and menu courses.
Looking West across towards the Chao Phraya River.
Fabulous array of golden Budhhas and other ornaments at a stand in the vast MBK shopping Center, not far from Siam Paragon. Everything from babies clothes to expensive watches and jewellery can be found here.
Central World Shopping Centre is currently the largest in Thailand. Takes a day to even look like covering this one! All of the major shopping centres and most of the smaller ones are spotlessly clean and it is a real pleasure to visit them.
Looking North from the outside section of the 87th floor restaurant. 4 more restaurants above this one!
This is a major shopping centre on Sumkhuvit Road. The Skytrain stops here on the way to Bearing to the SE or into the city. It is also a transit point for the MRT subway system. Upmarket trendy stores by the hundreds, 2 floors of really good restaurants and a cinema-tech floor. British style supermarket nearby
Most major department store-shopping centres have attached 5star hotels and are accessible from the Skytrain system.
The parks in Bangkok are pristine. They all have amazing facilities for kids and adults alike. Modern playgrounds, swimming pools, lakeside picnic spots, adult exercise equipment, snack shops etc. The Emporium Shopping Centre is adjacent this one. Many upmarket hotels mixed in with the 3 and 4 star cheaper chains. Cost me $2,800 for airfares from Australia and 30 days with brecky and at the Rembrandt Hotel in Soi Sumkhuvit 18.
Playgrounds are modern and safe. The gardens etc are constantly tended by a large crew of groundstaff. There are a few embassies around this area and the staff usually take their kids here for entertainment.
Blossoms lining the footpaths and lawns!
Just one of fabulous vehicles on Display in the amazing Siam Paragon shopping complex. Everything you can imagine is sold in these vast shopping malls. There are also a fabulous array of dining venues within each complex.
Section of the massive Siam Shopping Mall. The main CBD Skytrain station is linked to this complex. Everything here from fake flowers to Rolls Royce motor cars!
Oodles of food in every major street and soi.
Upmarket shopping mall and hotel complex. Still has relatively cheap food outlets though. Most major European-US fashion brands in all of the major shopping malls.
Looking past the west wing of the Imperial Queen Park Hotel towards the Millennium Tower Apartment buildings. Unfortunately this huge hotel will soon be closing down for a two year refurbishment program.
Beautifully decorated porcelain figurines and statuettes can be found in most parts of Thailand.
Part of the decorative furnishings in the Imperial Queen Park Hotel.
Massive apartment building complex with own Olympic size pool, helipad on each tower and vast exercise area-gym.
Major CBD intersection beneath converging lines of the Skytrain. Siam Discovery to the left, MBK department store out of sight to the right and the main art exhibition centre behind the camera. The sky-walkways link all the major CBD shopping malls. The only deviations are an escalator or two here and there.
